During IFAT Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for environmental technologies and waste management, I led the facilitation of international exchange at our joint booth, which we shared with UNIDO. Over the course of one week, I received and coordinated organized delegations from a wide range of countries, including Cambodia, Colombia, Bolivia, Turkey, the Philippines, Vietnam, and several countries in East Africa.
A key part of my role was organizing and facilitating targeted meetings between visiting delegations and private-sector companies active in waste management and recycling. These exchanges focused on sharing existing technologies, discussing operational challenges, and identifying potential partnerships to strengthen waste management systems and circular economy approaches in the respective countries.
In addition, I co-organized a World Bank Group roundtable as part of the Procurement Roadshow, creating a platform for direct dialogue between private companies and World Bank procurement experts. The discussion strengthened understanding of procurement processes and opened pathways for companies to engage with international development finance opportunities in the waste and recycling sector.
Overall, IFAT Munich provided a dynamic environment to connect stakeholders across sectors and regions and to translate international exchange into concrete cooperation opportunities in sustainable waste management.
